Environmental assessments should be about achieving total control of our built surroundings. Not about getting lost in the complexity and choice of different assessment methodologies – admin@fivicons.com
Welcome at our 100% sustainable website!
BREEAM Club “Fivicons” is very excited to see you found us searching the internet. We are building professionals: architects, advisors, planners and engineers involved in the design, construction, facilitating and eventual demolition of ‘green’ architecture.
We use this site to promote & inform you about the latest sustainable solutions for new building projects and buildings already in-use. The next decade we have to focus our attention on the use of renewable energy and decreace of our global CO2 emissions. Please support us with some structural feedback.
Don’t worry to much about your carbon footprint visiting this website. Our weblog is hosted by a 100% co2 green provider and we only promote and publish more than sustainable products and information. STRATO is the largest internet host in Europe and their webservers run completely on wind energy from Germany.
The Nr.1 Assessment Standard: BREEAM
We like to organize our sustainable content by using the main categories of BREEAM. If you don’t know what BREEAM is or want to know more about our BREEAM club we suggest you take one of Fivicons’ tours:
BREEAM may seem very complicated at first, but at the moment it is considered the most advanced method to look at the total life cycle of our buildings and surroundings. So think about this for a minute and start looking at the total picture. Then you will realize that also your line of work is just part of a very complex global environmental jigsaw puzzle.
In order to understand the overall complexity of sustainability we need an overall organizing methodology. We have decided we will go for BREEAM. BREEAM covers allmost all sustainable aspects and shows the most flexibel approach towards future innovations!

In reply to your twitter to the_walking_man. I have been working in the built environment since the early 70’s when I was designing and building energy efficient buildings and systems. My wife Kate and I are working together to develop a new business educating small to medium business in developing sustainability in business from the personal level through to the built environment.
I running a seminar on the Northern beaches of Sydney in January next year on sustainability and the built environment – working with people & business associated with the building industry.
I am also doing a walk starting 6th March, 2010 from Melbourne to Brisbane via the Bicentennial Trail where I will be running workshops in all the towns along the way working with business and local councils on their approach to developing sustainability in the bush of Australia and to do a documentary on the all the stories I gather. Also to link up with people who building and developing communities to be more sustainable. I was also one of the co-coordinator for sustainable house day where 180 homes, around Australia, were open to the public on Sunday 13 September. Next September I will be in Armidale for SHD and helping with SHD.
Always interested in what others are doing around the world in the built environment and sustainability .

Hi Ian,
Thank you so much for this nice reply. As said to you and Kate on Twitter we really like your initiative and will look forward to your messages and reports on these great ideas. Although Australia is a bit too far for just attending one of your workshops next year you’ll never know for sure. This whole social media experience shows us everything sustainable in this world seems within our reach.
Again, all the best and hopefully we will be able to share lots of valuable and sustainable information together.
Regards,
Menno Gijrath
